Hawaiian theme mosaic

Here I am at the beginning: the drawing. I lay out possible glass choices and start playing with beads and gems. This mosaic is for a particular person, so I have to draw on their preferences and trust my intuition.

Kaitlyn's Shrine

I grouted the mosaic in a muted light pink; I added silver grout glitter for p1zazz! In person it has a livelier look. Light dances off the crystals that I used for leaves and the silver beads I used to decorate the piece.

Paint Makes A Difference

I painted the frame black around the sides and pink in the indentation to pop the pink that is n the mosaic. Tomorrow I will grout the piece in a light pink and throw a bunch of grout glitter on it, since college girls love sparkly things. And I do to! The piece will have a name tomorrow.

Kaitlyn's Mosaic

Kaitlyn is going off to college in a week and I wanted to send her a gift for her dorm room. The mosaic is based on the colors that she is decorating her room with. The picture frame has not been painted or grouted yet...next step: paint, and then I will grout.

Trash to Treasure

I finished a week ago and grouted it with two colors of grout. The grout colors I feel did a great job uniting this explosive piece. I have not named the piece yet; just finishing it is enough for now.

I took this picture a month or so ago but did not have time to post it. I wanted to show the process I went through to finish this mosaic.

Progress is Slow

I have been working on this piece longer than any other because it has no set design. It is evolving out of my wanting to create without boundaries or rules. I love saying, “I think I will try this and see what happens.” No judgment; no critical voice of disapproval. I am coloring outside the lines, and while it is fun; it is also agonizing to be breaking out of my comfort zone. So, here is the direction it is going in to date.
